This concludes this series of Promo Life 101! I hope you've gained more confidence in getting a good start in the promo world. The industry has grown so much and brands are increasingly recognizing how impactful the promo world is.
In this industry, you will need to learn the art of patience. Being that the industry isn't streamlined across the board it can come off like a jerky rollercoaster. One moment bookings are coming easy and then without seeing it coming, bookings slow down. One season, rates are good and another season rates are meh. This week staffers are responding back and next week, crickets! You'll have events that are smooth sailing and other events are dysfunctional but you still are expected to make it work.
But as a newbie, it may take more effort to get a staffer to take a chance on you. But don't be discouraged. As a newbie, you may feel kinda of out of sorts when you're finally booked but don't be so hard on yourself. As a newbie, your payout may not seem like it's coming soon enough. In all of it, starting out have patience. You are not alone. Learn to network with other promo workers. Have fun. With that being said.
3 Ways To Help Speed Up Getting Booked
If you know of anyone in the industry, ask them to refer you for any events. Referrals go a long way for many staffers. Networking is an awesome tool to use.
Expand your fishing net. It may be a good idea to submit for events that may be outside of your current area/market that you don't mind traveling to. Your first event is important because those photos from that activation will serve you well in getting your next event like a snowball.
You may have to submit for events that offer shorter hours. Although you have a resume of work history, you need to start building your promo resume and you can only begin doing so if you have events to put on it.
