YOUR RESUME

Why? Why does your old resume matter?

Most promo events require and/or prefer for their promo staff to be 18 years of age or older due to most of the work being 1099 but on occasion, you'll run into a few promo companies that are W2. So your resume must highlight transferable skills. Those who have customer service experience, sales experience, event staff experience, or any job where you had to proactively interact with consumers. Instead of going through ways to revamp your resume my strongest advice is for you to reread your resume contains touchpoints you've had with the consumers or your teams.

One of your first thoughts may be to get a resume writer to rewrite your resume. The problem is, the experiential marketing industry is a little-known gem so many resume writers won't know what the industry is in order to tailor your resume. My best advice is to save a few event posts and submit them to your resume writer so they know what attributes and skillsets to highlight on your resume in accordance with your work history.

Your cover letter

If during the submission process, it requires you to upload your resume but doesn't give the option to upload a cover letter, then combine all of your resume and cover letter on the same file.

If the event post instructs you to submit through email, then instead of attaching a cover letter, copy and paste the text from the body of your cover letter into the body of the email.

Here is a template to grab inspiration from:

Hi, my name is [insert name] and I am available to work the following shifts:

[insert all the shifts and times you are available to be booked for]

Here is the requested information listed in the event post:

[insert the information that was requested from the event post. If there wasn't any information requested, erase this part of the template and continue on].

Attached is my resume. I am new to the industry so I don't have any/many events to list yet. But I'm excited to submit for this event for your consideration. As you can see from my resume, I have held the position of [insert position] where I was able to demonstrate my ability to connect with consumers quickly. My favorite part about being the [insert the position again] for [name the company you worked for in this position] was being able to represent my company's brand and promote their products to strengthen brand loyalty.

If selected for this booking, I will be sure to greet all consumers with positive energy and a can-do attitude. I love interacting with people and introducing them to new promotions. If you see fit to book me, I can be reached via email [insert email] or by phone at [insert phone number].

Thank you for your consideration.

Make sure to modify this template and reword it or else the staffers will eventually catch on that you've copied and pasted this from somewhere. P.S. A lot of staffers follow this blog, too.
