Running Low On Bookings? Try This!

Updated: Nov 15, 2023

Low on event bookings? Try this is captioned over a selfie group photo of smiling friends huddled together

Not getting booked as much lately? Your favorite promo agency kinda faded to black on you? Are your inbox drier than normal? Do you want to do something about it? Don't be discouraged or shamed. It happens. Sometimes your favorite staffer has moved up the corporate ladder or moved on to better opportunities or has been put on a different project and now your hook-up isn't in a position any longer to hook you up anymore. Perhaps the promo company has upgraded or switched to a new system internally which has recalibrated how and who they book. It's possible that the way the agency booked their promo workers has been revised and you missed the memo. I could go on with reasons why you're feeling a drought. Or you could be black-balled. But today, we're going to assume you haven't been black-balled and move forward with getting you back on the books.

There have been times when even I, guilty as charged, was given assignments to book and when the assignments came crashing in STACKED high tide, I wasn't able to be as particular as I was known to be about who I staffed my events with. The priority objective was to just book the events. Staffers are not your agent so they are not thinking about your income and there are times we just need to get our job done. We get into a flow and the momentum starts rolling with who we booked which you weren't a part of. This is why I am suggesting the following:

Step 1: Update Your Resume

Step 2: Gather Your Newest Promo Photos

Step 3: Email Every Staffer You Have An Email For!

Write out a template and gather all the staffer emails you have, put those emails in the BCC, and send. You want this email to be simple, short, friendly, and to the point.

"Hey,

It's [insert your full name], I wanted to reach out to let you know that I'm available for any events you have coming up. I've attached my updated promo resume and new photos of my latest activations. If you have anything in [insert any markets you work in], please keep me in mind. I do a lot of [insert the role/brand ambassador/event manager/product specialist, etc] work and would love the opportunity to continue booking with you.

I can be reached at [insert telephone number] (call or text) and my email is [insert email address]. Do you have any openings coming up that I could get booked for? Let me know.

Have a good day!

[insert your name]"

Make sure you actually updated your resume, attach it. Make sure you attach your newer photos. Now go login to all of those profiles you have with each promo company whether or not you had an email address for them or not and update everything.

Here's why...

Sometimes your last event with the company was so long ago, we forget and only remember the last people who we booked that did well. It's no shade to you, but we're in Stafferville, USA and we are just trying to get the job done. I don't normally keep a running tab on when was the last time we booked this promo or that promo. A polite no no-pressure email can go a long way. It becomes a reminder of "hey, I'm here." This is the good version of 'pick me' energy.

Warning

Do NOT take it personally if you don't hear back. For instance, some promo agencies have their emails set up to dump into a main email account even though it looks like the email addresses are separate entities. Those emails are usually set up to filter for certain email subject titles and if your email doesn't fit that filter, it gets looked over. Or the staffer is busy and doesn't have the band-width to respond. Remember, staffers are not meant to take on more than what they are assigned. Staffers are not case workers fighting for your spot on the activation. They are people doing their job for the company they work for. If they answer your email, move forward from there.
